Maria Oviedo - Senior Attorney, Lubbock Office
About
Maria was born in a rural municipality of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico and immigrated to the United States when she was seven years old. Maria was able to immigrate through her father, a naturalized citizen who obtained permanent residence through the Reagan amnesty.
Maria grew up in Granbury, Texas, before relocating to Lubbock in 2012 to attend
college. Maria graduated from Texas Tech in 2015 with a double Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Spanish. She worked for Whittenburg Law Firm one year before attending the Texas Tech School of Law from 2016-2019. Maria was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in October of 2019 and has exclusively practiced Immigration and Nationality law since then. She has managed the Lubbock office since 2022.
Maria is the first person in her family to receive a college education. Her experiences growing up as an immigrant, a child of immigrants, and a first-generation student have solidified her desire to commit to a life of service to the immigrant community, and to assist people in navigating the immigration system. Maria’s love for her clients translates into her daily work, where she leads her office with tenacity, compassion, and a relentless desire for excellent representation. One of Maria’s greatest strengths is in coaching even the most stubborn of clients to be a star on the witness stand, or in front of an immigration officer.
In her free time, you can find Maria travelling, hiking in the mountains or in national parks, or walking her dogs, Charlie and Archibald.
